Ignorance of Reality

BIO

Highly ambitious fashion textile designer specializing in knit with print. Concept driven, I aim to portray my concept through use of subtle yet effective techniques, experimenting technically with knit and complementing with the use of print and other materials.

Innovative and driven to push the boundaries of textiles, yet focused on creating intriguing collections of textiles and garments with purpose, that are extremely wearable and contemporary.

The concept behind my final collection is based upon the idea of this perfect artificial reality portrayed by the mass media and the contrast of the actual reality of life and the current problems with homelessness. My inspiration came from my trip to New York and seeing the reality of this contrast in person. Alongside this I also looked at fashion editorial imagery and created my own imagery through use of multiple cardboard boxes and mark making.

The samples from my collection have all been knitted on the 12 gauge Dubied industrial machine, using merino wool and varying weights of cotton. I created different knit structures using a variety of single bed, mock rib and stitch transferring techniques. I also bonded some of my knit samples to complementary fabrics such as tulle and silk chiffon. This was to portray the idea of piecing clothes together and layering them over each other for warmth and protection from the elements. This was also conveyed through the waterproof fabric of my trousers and the lamination of a selection of knitted samples.
