Vitality Base : A Mental Health Centre

BIO

I am a task-driven and people oriented designer, with great ambition and an enthusiastic personality. Having studied Interior Design as well as undertaking a 6-month placement at Dunelm (Soft Furnishings) Ltd as a Design Intern, it has allowed me to become a confident individual who has the ability to bring fresh and unique ideas to the table. During my time at university I have mostly enjoyed creating 3D Visuals which bring my projects to life, by telling stories with their own brand identities.

My Final Major Project was to design a base for young adults and students who have experience of mental and emotional distress. The main aim was to create something which would face the stigma which surrounds mental health, and provide an environment which would allow potential clients to feel comfortable about their situation and not be afraid to ask for help. I wanted to detach my project from the idea of a hospital for patients, or as they used to be referred to as ‘Mental Asylums’ or ‘Psychiatric Hospitals’.

Vitality Base is situated in Coventry City Centre. It consists of various therapy zones, and is a place where young adults and students are able to come and use the facilities out of their own will, rather than them having to be admitted as patients. This would help in providing the clients with more confidence, support and encouragement that what they’re dealing with doesn’t have to be frowned upon anymore.
