The Chronology of Fear

BIO

Beckett's work focused on her personal fears throughout her life and wanted to materialise them in the real world through photography. She wanted to explore her fears through different methods and techniques to create images which would confuse and intrigue the audience. The body of work includes three sections. The first being childhood fears, which is how it started, progressed to current fears and finished off with fears that might be present in the future which fits with the title.  Beckett has been heavily influenced by several photographers such as Sarah McCartney, Francesca Woodman and Duane Michals. With these influences, she has looked at techniques such as long exposure for movement, lighting and the power of suggestion.  This project has opened Beckett's eyes to the world of which her fear stemmed from and helped her delve into the meanings behind her current fears. The scariest was looking to the future. To try and anticipate what was to come, the obvious one was age and one which everyone can relate to which achieves the aim of the project.
