L'esprit de l'escalier

BIO

I am a womenswear fashion designer. My final major project; 'L'esprit de l'escalier' was inspired by childhood nostalgia, focusing on my own personal memories such as dressing up, fairytales and clothes I wore as a child.

I explored the use of sheer fabrics such as silk chiffon and silk cotton, combined with Sophie Hallette lace to add a sense of depth to minimal silhouettes. Texture was created with the combination of tulle frills and varied sizes of leather cord, inspired by the niave lines of childrens drawings. A huge part of my aesthetic as a designer is focused on working with contrasts to create innovative and unique designs, I have achieved this within this project by combining ideas and influences of childlike innocence with fabrics typically used for elegant and luxurious evening wear. Using only black fabrics gave my designs extra impact. This resulted in a six piece collection which was showcased at Graduate Fashion Week.
