BIO

My name is Isabel Dickinson. I am a ceramicist and textile artist, with a passion for texture colour and organic form. I work with earthenware and porcelain paper clay.

Textiles has always played a part within my creativity, but my passion for ceramics started with Faversham potter Tony Ross Gower, where I learnt the basics of wheel throwing. I found the process of throwing therapeutic and exciting every time I came up with a new shape. I enjoy seeing how a pot gradually evolves and this has influenced me to start scaling up my pieces of work. I have had a variety of work experiences with Tony, helping to teach at summer schools and demonstrating within craft markets.

The most recent ceramic artist to inspire me is called Jane Richardson who works both on the wheel and with hand building, using paper clay and porcelain .Her work is extremely delicate. By working with her I have started to bring a lighter feel to my third year work at university which has been based on seed pods, using porcelain paper clay, felting and chalky textured underglazes.
