Deterioration - The order within decay

BIO

For my graduate collection my concept centred on the line and shape present within decay . Within the organic forms i found order and geometric patterns which inspired me to highlight these shapes and build on the idea of transforming something which is old and deteriorating into something new and innovative. I began my research looking at derelict buildings and the structures that were left behind , as well as the contrasts in textures. i found colour from peeling paint and crackled rust . Colour is bold within this collection and provides vivid juxtapositions from cool to warm . These textures and colours also aided the injection of print within my designs, by using textile techniques such as crackle paints and vinyl I was able to create prints from the surfaces themselves. With regards to fabrics it was important that i gave the collection a luxurious aesthetic but also capture the essence of deterioration. By using aplique with leather, sharp geometric shapes created pattern and contrasted with the sheepskin coats . By deconstructing sheepskin coats and re working them on the stand it enabled me to take something old and re work it into something exciting and new .
