BIO

This series of work is the result of an inquisition in to the process of painting. Through self-portraiture, figuration, and theories of materiality, this work aims to explore the relationship between the maker and the matter in a piece of work. A struggle and compromise of control throughout the process has led to the application and removal of paint at different stages. This practice reveals a substrate and may be seen to have created both tension and ambiguity in the pictures. This may also be viewed as the construction and deconstruction of pictorial elements in the work. The ideas incorporated in the making of this work have been influenced by Francis Bacon and Adrian Ghenie.
