A Twist on Tradition

BIO

A passionate illustrator and dedicated women's wear designer who enjoys developing innovative ways to use fabrics and materials to create something interesting and unexpected. I often work with embroidery and/or embellishment, and enjoy working with fabric manipulation.

My final major project was inspired by how our perspectives of the world around us changes as we grow older. I looked closer at how scale and proportion effects us differently as individuals as we search for where we belong. Fascinated by the effects of shifting size and scale, I then began to develop this emotional response visually through fabric manipulation, looking closer at the weave of fabrics as apposed to using them for what they are at  first glance. Taking inspiration from the materials and silhouettes of the 'typical' gentlemen of older generations and fusing them with proportions and perspectives of younger generations led me to create pieces with the illusion of tradition, but with a closer look, the scale and visual stimulation shifts, giving a new life and twist to tradition.
