'ZONE' - PRIMARY EDUCATION

BIO

I am an insightful, creative and capable individual with a passion for interior design, this has become apparent during my undergraduate degree at De Montfort University. This is evidenced by my academic understanding of interior architecture which has subsequently enhanced my confidence to express myself through design. The course has not only exceeded my expectations by cultivating a broad range of skills, but also permitted me to be unique and engage such skills when developing designs for issues that are often overlooked. This became increasingly apparent in my final year project, ‘Zone’, in which, I designed a non-segregated school for disabled and non-disabled children. I was inspired to learn and engage my interests into designing a space which would not only change education today but also develop a better understanding of children.

The Government have built a foundation of schooling systems that have resulted in schools following the same principles of learning through a curriculum, however, the aim of ‘Zone – Primary Education’ was to move away from traditional schooling systems.  Over the years, it has been found that children are unique and therefore all have a different way of learning. This is visible through my research and understanding of Montessori education which enables children to grow and learn at their own pace, thus, this education style remained the soul of my project. Whilst my chosen building for the project was grand and had complex barriers, I ultimately managed to overcome them and the overall scheme was successful due to the building being perfect for the project. Through the development of ‘Zone’ I was able to develop a design, strive under pressure and cross the boundaries of the expected which shows my strong desire for positive change.
