Sophie Barrs is a hugely determined and ambitious student , specialising in printed textiles, excited to gain experience within the textile design industry. As a printed textile design student, her work is inspired by a large variety of sources, with a keen eye for colour and layout, ensuring the basis of her work. Her design focus is explored through illustrations and mark making in order to create fresh and innovative designs for interior wallpapers and furnishing fabrics. With her knowledge of both screen printing processes and digital print, she is inspired to produce a combination of techniques to apply to her designs, enabling her collections to be commercially viable.

Technical knowledge, including fabric dying is another element that enhances her design development, as well as her talent in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to manipulate initial drawings and ideas.

Bloomsbury Group influences show consideration into my Home Interior Collection which includes furnishing fabrics and wallpapers. The aim of this collection is to bring an aspect of the outside world, indoors, creating a calm and tranquil setting. Linking back to my research on the relationship between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West, this collection provides a place in order for you to escape the world and your own mind and to give you a source of freedom. Organic and fluid shapes create a fresh outlook, translated into digital printing with finishes, fit for the commercial market. A diverse range of motifs have been explored by soft watercolours contrasting against structural line illustrations to show the English heritage element to start the collection. The watercolour technique proves to be a strong point to these drawings, making them feel soft and free; keeping the overall look original and fresh.
